Elliat Rich runs a successful design practice from her home and studio in Alice Springs in Central Australia creating all types and scale of civic and privately commissioned work. Her location and the different briefs she encounters as a designer make her exotic to us city folk.

The undercurrent of Elliat Rich’s practice is to recognise the simple moments or objects within the everyday that deserve
or facilitate contemplation. Expanding on simplicity reveals
the true complexity of the everyday, the layers of meaning and understanding within the habitus. There is no ‘basic’ simple,
the material, the form of an object, its use all come with layers of cultural understanding. By celebrating the ‘simplified’ we can see how rich our lives are.
